We work within the Anglican tradition and welcome participants from other traditions.
Welcome to the St Francis Spiritual Direction Formation Program which has recognition from the Australian Ecumenical Council of Spiritual Direction (AECSD).
It is an initiative of the Anglican Church of Southern Queensland, and is located on the St Francis Theological College campus at Milton in Brisbane. The program has its home within the Ministry Education Commission, which fosters a rich program of theological education, lay formation, vocational discernment and Christian spirituality with children and families.
This ministry is recognised as a charism and call of God. It offers participants an opportunity, with experienced Spiritual Directors, to both discern their call to this ministry and develop their practice in companioning others in the contemplative evocative model of spiritual direction - a model which aims to integrate a contemplative stance in daily life, and the adoption of a contemplative stance towards those accompanied in the spiritual direction conversation.
Spiritual direction takes place in a contemplative conversation where the participants take a long, loving gaze at the real, gazing deeply into the interior and external life, in order to uncover the presence of God in all things.
Personal and spiritual growth are important foundation stones for the person in formation. Prayer and a contemplative approach to life, self-awareness and sensitivity to the movements of the Spirit are all nourished through the engagement in the contemplative learning and practicum components of the program, as well as by the individual's engagement in regular spiritual direction and other prayer/retreat experiences.
